A Hitchin care home is challenging toxic male stereotypes as they host a ‘Gentlemen’s Lunch Club’ to discuss wellbeing and provide a comfortable environment.

Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week, Foxholes Care Home, near Hitchin, took on the issue of loneliness with a ‘Gentlemen’s Lunch Club’ pub outing where they discussed wellbeing, hobbies and interests and their shared experiences.

Neil Gandencha, estate manager at the Foxholes, said: “Loneliness is affecting more and more of us across the UK and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health, particularly since the pandemic.”

Several of the male residents had expressed their openness to bringing the club into the local community for their next meeting.

Foxholes deemed it the perfect time to bring the club back into action to help improve the residents’ quality of life and tackle the loneliness pandemic that came hand in hand with COVID-19.
