The application suggests a "modern, sustainable amenity" to serve local youth and sports clubs.

A GoFundMe page has been created by Pirton Parish Council to raise funds for the development.

Hitchin and Harpenden MP Bim Afolami visited the premises to meet with members of the parish council and Pirton-based football club Lea Sports PSG.

Bim Afolami MP said: "It is always fantastic to see new local amenities in our towns and villages and it was great to hear more about the plans for a new modern pavilion on Pirton Recreation Ground to serve local people.

"We had a productive discussion about the project, the benefits that it could bring to Pirton residents – and indeed those from the wider local community – and the ongoing fundraising efforts that they have been undertaking to deliver it.

"I would encourage everyone to check out their GoFundMe and give their support to this brilliant local amenity, which I know will serve residents well for generations.

"I look forward to seeing it completed!"
