As Easter weekend approaches and with children off school, many families around Hertfordshire will be heading out for their holidays.

However, delays in and around the county may cause some delays, making travel a little more difficult.

To keep you up to date on the latest travel news and updates, we've found out what to expect, the warnings issued and alternative routes to take this holiday weekend.

1. Network Rail

Network Rail is urging passengers to plan their journeys in advance of the Easter bank holidays, as essential improvement and engineering work is carried out across the rail network.

There will be disruption to services on many routes between Friday, April 7, and Monday, April 10.

Some train services will be affected as they work to improve the railway. So, be in the know before you go.

2. Great Northern

On Easter Monday, April 10, due to early morning engineering work, trains towards London will not be able to call at Welham Green or Hatfield before 5.20am.

Buses will run between Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar to provide a connection with train services.

3. Thameslink

On Sunday, April 9, due to early morning engineering work between Bedford and St Albans, buses will replace trains between these stations until 9.30am.

4. London Northwestern Railway

On Good Friday, April 7, Saturday, April 8, Sunday, April 9, and Easter Monday, April 10, engineering works will take place between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central, and no trains will run between these stations.

Trains from the North and Midlands will terminate at Milton Keynes Central. Buses will run between Milton Keynes Central and Potters Bar.

On these days, due to engineering work between St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction, buses will replace trains between these stations.

5. M25

Over double the usual traffic levels are set for the M25 anti-clockwise carriageway between Hertfordshire and Surrey, the A303 westbound near Stonehenge in Wiltshire, and the M5 south between Bristol and Bridgwater.

National Highways will briefly remove over 1,400 miles of roadworks on England’s motorways and major A-roads by 6am on Thursday, April 6, until Tuesday, April 11, meaning over 98 per cent of road networks will be free from roadworks.
