After voters went to the polls on Thursday, May 4, the results are in for the elections to Stevenage Borough Council.

A third of the 39 seats on the council were up for election, with one councillor being elected in each ward.

Labour were defending nine seats, with the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats hoping to hold onto two apiece.

All the parties were successful in doing so, with no seats changing hands.

That means that Labour remain in control of the council, with 24 seats. The Conservatives have nine, and the Liberal Democrats have six.

However, with some councillors stepping down, there will still be some new faces on the council after yesterday's election.

Among them is Mason Humberstone, who won Bandley Hill for Labour and becomes the youngest councillor in Stevenage.

The closest ward turned out to be Longmeadow, where Conservative Cllr Alex Farquharson was seeking re-election. He won by 14 votes.
