More volunteers are needed for a charity event that is being held in less than four weeks - can you help?

The Rainbow Run in aid of the East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity is being held at Ridlins End Stadium and Playing Fields in Stevenage on Sunday, June 25.

Participants are encouraged to wear bright rainbow colours and run, walk or skip a 10k, 5k or 2.5k route to raise funds for hospitals including Lister in Stevenage and the New QEII in Welwyn Garden City.

Stevenage PE teacher Lauren Cooper took part in last year's inaugural event - just seven months after having her leg amputated after it was crushed under a falling wall.

She said: "I wanted to raise funds to thank the whole physiotherapy team at Lister Hospital. What they do is amazing. They have listened to me, laughed with me, fought my corner and given me the confidence to keep pushing on.

"They haven’t just helped me with the practical elements of learning to walk again, they have helped me mentally and genuinely care about how I am."

A spokesperson for the East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals' Charity said: "Whatever your reason for taking part, every penny raised will help our wonderful NHS teams go above and beyond for our patients.

"All runners are encouraged to dress in their best rainbow outfits. There will be medals for all runners, and prizes will be given out on the day for first over the finishing line, best dressed and top fundraisers. You can also expect music and refreshments."

There will be coloured powder paint thrown on the course. Runners can avoid the paint stations by running around them.

The charity spokesperson added: "We need a few more volunteers to help us make our Rainbow Run a fantastic day for everyone taking part.

"We need volunteers to help us set up and pack away, route and car park marshals, colour zone volunteers to throw paint and volunteers for the refreshment and merchandise stalls.

"If you can help, please call us on 01438 285182 or email charity.enh-tr@nhs.net."
