An estate agency has named Stevenage among the top ten London commuter towns for first-time house buyers.

Mackenzie Smith conducted a detailed analysis of more than 100 locations to come up with their top ten, using factors such as journey times into central London, rail fares, average house prices, Ofsted school ratings, and crime figures.

While Billericay topped the list and Earlswood in Surrey came second, Stevenage ranked third highest.

Mackenzie Smith noted that Stevenage "may not have the lowest crime rate compared to other towns on the list", but they praised the town for its fast commute times and for having some of the most affordable average house prices in the south.

Ed Mackenzie Smith, co-founder of the estate agency, said: “Good commutes have always been important to home buyers.
