A £500,000 refurbishment of the gym at Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre is now complete.

The revamp includes state-of-the-art fitness equipment, such as new bikes in the spin studio, alongside new lighting and flooring.

To cater for increased demand for strength training, equipment including a hack squat machine and cable crossover have been introduced. Alongside this, new cardiovascular equipment such as treadmills, Wattbikes and a skillmill will allow members to enhance their workout experience.

People are invited to trial the new facilities at the annual Health Action Day on Saturday. From 10am to 2pm, alongside gym access, activities will include table tennis, youth tennis, dodgeball, walking tennis and the popular Fitathon to raise money for dementia charities.

Allan Prescott, contract manager at Everyone Active, which manages the centre in partnership with Stevenage Borough Council, said: "We’re delighted the gym refurbishment is now complete, and invite the local community to come along to our upcoming Health Action Day to experience our fantastic newly refurbished facilities.

"We’re sure our members will benefit greatly from this investment. Not only will it help to increase our prevalence as a hub for the local community, but also work to support our mission - for everyone to reach their target of 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week."

Meanwhile, a new multi-million-pound leisure centre in Stevenage is planned for 2027.

A new sports and leisure hub next to the Town Centre Gardens on St George's Way is part of the town’s wider regeneration plans.

The hub promises to be a state-of-the-art facility with swimming, studios, gym space and sports facilities.
