The Baldock Charter Street Fair is set to return to the town centre next week, with "three days of fun" promised.

The fair, organised by Abbott's Amusements, will run on the town's High Street from Monday (October 2) until Wednesday (October 4), from 3pm until 10pm each day.

The fair, which dates back to a royal charter granted in 1199, includes an array of fairground rides and stalls with prizes to be won.

When the right was given for the town to hold a weekly market and a yearly fair for all time, the fair's main purpose was to trade.

Cloth, wool and wine merchants plied their trade during the early years of the event, which has now become an amusements fair for all to enjoy.

For the last 100 years, the fair has been run by generations of the Abbott family who, in 2020, took a children’s fairground ride to the town centre, to protect the charter despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
