A man was left with "extensive bruising" to his face, neck and ribs when he was assaulted by two men in a Baldock alleyway, and police are appealing for witnesses.

The victim – a man in his twenties – was walking with two others along the small alleyway between Grosvenor Road and Clothall Way when an altercation broke out with a group of three others – two men and a woman.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire police said: "The two men assaulted the victim and he was left with extensive bruising to his face, ribs and neck. He also required a hospital visit."

The incident happened between around 12.15am and 12.45am on Sunday, October 8.

The two suspects are described as white, bald and aged in their forties or fifties.

PC Abbie Hay, who is investigating, said: "Unfortunately, CCTV enquiries have proved negative, but we are hopeful that there may be witnesses who are yet to come forward.

"Were you in the area? Did you see what happened?

"If you can help, please email me at Abbie.Hay@herts.police.uk quoting crime reference 41/80810/23."
