Do you know someone special in your community who has gone above and beyond and made a real difference in the district of North Herts?

North Herts Council wants to hear from you, as it launches the North Herts Heroes 2024, sponsored by Altro, John O'Conner, Nyaradzo Group and the Comet.

The deadline for nominations is January 7. Please seek permission from the person you are nominating.

They don’t have to live in the district, but the work they carry out must largely benefit residents of North Herts.

Judging and filming of winners’ stories is due to take place later in January and February, with a ceremony in early March. Winners will receive an engraved trophy and gift voucher.

The judges of the awards include:

  • Cllr Daniel Allen, chair of the council
  • A representative from North Herts Centre for Voluntary Service (NHCVS)
  • A representative from each of the sponsors
  • Georgia Barrow, editor of the Comet, as media sponsor

Cllr Daniel Allen, chair of the council, said: “We know there are some fantastic people out there who give up their time to help other people and communities, and really make a difference to their lives.

"Sometimes this means they are passionate about a certain issue and are actively making North Herts a better place to live.

"These awards are a small way the council can recognise this amazing work and thank these special people, who don’t do it for the glory.

"We want to acknowledge their contribution – it very often inspires others to think about how they could get involved and help others too. This year’s winners blew us away, I can’t wait to read your nominations and meet with winners next year.”

If you would like to enquire about sponsoring the awards, email community@north-herts.gov.uk.
