The Poundland store in Stevenage has moved to new premises.

But customers won't have far to travel - because the new site is also in Stevenage town centre.

The discount chain has taken over the premises formerly occupied by Wilko, at 49-55 Queensway by the fountain. Workmen were spotted erecting new signage on Thursday, November 23 ahead of the shop's opening on Saturday, November 25.

It is understood that all Poundland staff have kept their jobs as part of the move.

The previous Poundland store, located at 77-83 Queensway, closed for the final time on Friday, November 24. Its unit has been for sale since last year, and is now under offer according to the estate agents' website.

Reef had been expected to purchase the unit to build Stevenage Enterprise Centre as part of plans for the regeneration of the town centre, but a range of other locations within the town centre are now being considered.
