Herts police have discovered that an ATM in Stevenage town centre had had a device fitted to it by fraudsters.

On Saturday, December 9, officers found that the ATM had a 'Lebanese loop' attached to it.

According to police, the device prevents cash from being ejected when the customer has asked for it, with the machine instead drawing the cash back in. The customer is led to believe that their cash has not been withdrawn.

One of the fraudsters can then come to the ATM shortly afterwards, and collect the cash from their device before placing it back ready for the next victim.

A spokesperson for Herts police said: "We are asking members of the public to be vigilant when withdrawing money from an ATM and to report any suspicious activity to the bank or police."
