'Investigative works' are to be carried out ahead of a possible resurfacing of Stevenage's High Street.

Hertfordshire County Council are preparing to carry out the works from Monday 15 to Wednesday 17 January, between 9.30am and 4pm.

It follows feedback from residents that resurfacing is needed on the carriageway.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place while the works are conducted, and some car parking spaces may be closed temporarily. Footpaths will be unaffected.

Workers will create ten holes, in pairs along the High Street, and take samples from them to consider whether the existing road material should be used again, or if a different composition should be used instead.

The  holes will be created:

  • Outside Holy Trinity Church
  • Between Howarde Court and Shepherds Path
  • Outside William Hill
  • Outside Beauty Within
  • Outside The Cromwell Hotel

In a letter to local residents and businesses, a spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council wrote that they "appreciate your patience while we complete these works".
