A school in Stevenage has finally been given a good Ofsted rating, after two consecutive judgements of requires improvement.
Woolenwick Junior School has now been rated good in all areas, after a new senior leadership team was appointed following requires improvement Ofsted ratings in 2017 and 2020.
"Since the previous inspection, the school has put in place a fully developed curriculum that is ambitious for all pupils," Ofsted says in a report published last week, following an inspection in December.
It says "pupils enjoy their studies" and "access a range of learning and life experiences at this school".
The report highlights how "lessons are calm and purposeful" and national tests are improving.
Ofsted found that "leaders are knowledgeable about their subject areas and provide staff with clear guidance about the most effective teaching methods".
The education watchdog also found that "the school ensures pupils catch up quickly when they find something tricky to learn", but that "staff are not always fully aware of what pupils misunderstand or have forgotten".
Ofsted noted that: "Some feedback given to pupils about how to improve their work is not always precise enough," meaning that "some pupils do not always understand how to improve their work to meet curriculum expectations".
The watchdog also found that "a few staff do not deliver elements of the curriculum as confidently and competently as others," which "hinders how well some pupils learn."
Meanwhile, "governors bring a high level of expertise to their role," Ofsted says in its report, highlighting how "governors are determined the school continues to improve and have a clear strategic plan."
Headteacher Richard Pallant said: "I am extremely proud of all our staff, children and governors for the rapid improvements made to the school for our local community.
"We are looking forward to continuing this journey of improvement and development even further in the future."
