We’re well into the new year, and it already feels like time is flying!

It’s far too late for me to wish you all a Happy New Year, if you ask me, so Happy Spring Is Coming instead!

Isn’t it joyful to see plants coming back to life and bulbs starting to bloom!

In this year’s sustainability column, I thought it would be useful to feature some wonderful local organisations, businesses and people who are doing amazing sustainable things in our area.

Some will be providing services and things that will make a sustainable switch nice and easy, such as reusable nappies. Others will be incredible initiatives that you may want to get involved in.

To kick things off, let me tell you a little bit more about what I do in the sustainability space.

For my day job, I help small organisations and businesses become a bit more sustainable – a bit like a couch to 5k programme for those of us committed to getting a bit more active.

I often find that the sustainability language is quite confusing, so I spend some time explaining the background and definitions of key words, so that everyone really understands what the subject is all about.

I also run short training sessions for all sorts of groups who want to know more about how they can help our planet.

In my spare time, I volunteer as a sustainability adviser to Garden House Hospice Care. I pretty much do my day job for the team there but on a pro-bono basis.

I thoroughly enjoy volunteering for such a wonderful local charity that you can see makes a real difference to our community.

I’m also in the process of building a local network of sustainability people and businesses in North Herts: to build awareness, community and support in what can be quite a lonely space.

I have to be totally honest, I’m really behind with this project, but sharing this column with my new found sustainability friends is very much part of that initiative.

So if you’d like to be a part of the feature, please get in touch. You can find me on Instagram @sust.consulting, or our email is hello@sustconsulting.co.uk

Whatever and whoever we feature, the idea is simple: a great idea for our community and the planet, coming from our small corner of the world.
