A young girl from Stevenage has had her hair cut to support children suffering from cancer and alopecia.

Doll, who is six years old, donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, and raised almost £1,800 to support their work.

Keen to support the initiative, Doll went to Cllr Conor McGrath's fortnightly surgery in Bedwell, seeking advice on how she could help the cause.

With the councillor's support, Doll and her family were able to get nearby businesses on board, with Hair & Now in Bedwell Crescent offering to cut Doll's hair.

A JustGiving fundraising campaign was set up, bringing in £520, with a further £380 also raised from cash donations.

And all of Doll's efforts have been doubly rewarded, with Barclays committing to match the total sum raised, bring the full amount to £1,800.

Cllr McGrath said that everyone is "so proud" of Doll, and added that her efforts "exemplified the spirit of giving".

The money will go to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children suffering from cancer or alopecia.
