A Grade II-listed 7 bedroom Victorian house, constructed around 160 years ago by the renowned British surveyor and civil engineer John Bailey Denton, is up for sale in Stevenage.

The house, known as Orchard House, carries a price tag of £1,175,000 and boasts an expansive internal floor space of 3,854 sq ft, spread over four reception rooms, seven bedrooms, and two en suite bathrooms.

Estate agents Hunters describe Orchard House as a "home associated with the grandest of Victorian stature."

It's believed the house was erected by Denton in 1854 on land he had acquired three years prior.

Notably, Denton was a significant landowner in the region and constructed many of the houses along Orchard Road.

The property remains an iconic slice of Stevenage's history, notably it's nestled within the Orchard Road Conservation Area - a locality characterised by its architectural and historic interest.

According to Hunters, it's a "rare once in a lifetime opportunity" to acquire such a house of significant "Victorian architectural quality and style."

Extending over one third of an acre, Orchard House comes with bountiful mature grounds and a wooden lot area, additional to the regular living space.

This extra plot behind the walled garden can be used for storage or as a children's play area, according to the estate agent.

The house contains outbuildings comprised of a spacious garage storage area with a vaulted ceiling that could be transformed into a carport setup or be converted to another use, subject to planning consents.

Additionally, the house has an outdoor swimming pool, although it requires refurbishment, as pointed out by Hunters.

Period features of the house include decorative oak panelled walls, high ceilings, a wine cellar, and a distinctive first floor landing that enables east/west wing separation.
