The opening times of the new Adult Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Lister Hospital in Stevenage have been extended.

The unit, which opened in January to help reduce A&E waiting times, is now open daily from 8am to 10pm.

The UTC sees patients aged 16 and over who have a non-life or limb-threatening injury.

The team of emergency nurse practitioners and GPs at Lister's adult UTC can treat a range of minor illnesses and injuries, including broken bones, sprains and dislocations, burns and scalds, minor head injuries, fevers and objects stuck in ears or noses.

A spokesperson for the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, which runs Lister, said: "We are pleased to share – following a successful pilot – that we are extending the opening times of our Adult Urgent Treatment Centre at Lister to 8am to 10pm.

"Last admissions to the service will be at 8pm. However, depending on clinical demand on the service, clinicians within the adult UTC may continue to admit patients past the 8pm deadline."
