After a suspected assault by a group of teenagers that left two Barclay Academy students in hospital, here's what we know so far about the incident in Stevenage.

What happened?

Police were called at around 3pm yesterday (March 13) following reports that two teenage boys had been assaulted by a group of six other teenage boys in Walkern Road.

Officers attended the scene and the two victims were taken to hospital with head and hand injuries.

What is the condition of the boys?

In a letter to parents, Barclay confirmed the two Year 11 students are in a "stable condition".

"After school, as you may be aware, there was an incident outside the school gates. A group of youths who are not part of our school community attacked two of our Year 11 students," the letter reads.

"Following first aid procedures, our staff accompanied the injured students to the hospital. Currently, both students are in a stable condition."

Has anyone been arrested?

Herts police confirmed that six suspects involved in the alleged assault have all been arrested and are in custody.

Was anyone else hurt?

No one else was hurt, but Barclay did confirm that a female member of staff bravely stepped in during the incident.

"Although this occurred off school grounds, a vigilant staff member was present and intervened, putting herself at risk," the academy said.

"Her swift actions prevented further harm to our students. Fortunately, the staff member is shaken but unharmed physically."

Were the suspects also from Barclay?

Barclay confirmed the suspects were not pupils at the academy, describing the suspects as "a group of youths who are not part of our school community".
