A teenager has avoided injury after being "struck in the face" during an assault involving seven people in Stevenage town centre.

The incident occurred between 3.30pm and 3.50pm on Sunday, March 3, when a 16-year-old boy was approached by a group of around seven people in the town square.

The victim was reportedly struck in the face multiple times. He was subsequently checked over by ambulance staff and no injuries were reported.

"Our enquiries are continuing, and I am appealing for anyone with information to please get in touch," said PC Chloe Scott, investigating.

"The group, who were described as wearing dark clothing with balaclavas and made off before police arrived, were reportedly confronted by witnesses.

"I am keen to speak to anyone who may have intervened or saw what happened, or who saw a group matching this description, in the town around the time of the incident.
