A woman has been hospitalised after a lorry and a Ford Fiesta collided in Hitchin.

The incident took place at around 2.15pm today (Friday, May 10) on the A602 Park Way.

Hertfordshire police attended, alongside colleagues from the fire and ambulance service.

Road closures are in place at the Three Moorhens roundabout, Tilehouse Street and Charlton Road while the emergency services deal with the crash.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called by the fire service at around 2.15pm today (Friday, May 10), following reports of a road traffic collision on the A602 in Hitchin.

"Two vehicles were involved – a lorry and a Ford Fiesta.

"Road closures are in place while emergency services attend the scene.

"A woman, who was driving the Fiesta, has been taken to hospital for treatment."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We were called just after 1.50pm this afternoon to attend a road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry at the junction of Charlton Road and Park Way in Hitchin.

“An ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle, a critical care vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

"One patient, an adult female, was transported by road ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further care.”

Lastly, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service commented: "Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2:11pm this afternoon to reports of a road traffic collision on Park Way, Hitchin.

"Two fire engines from Stevenage fire station were sent to the scene, where crews were faced with a car and a recovery vehicle that had collided.

"One person was trapped in the car, and firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle to safely release them and transfer them into the care of the ambulance service."
