Homes in Stevenage are still without water after a pipe burst in two places.

Affinity Water was made aware of a burst main on Aston Lane near to Stevenage Golf Course yesterday morning (May 20), which was affecting the local pumping station.

It left various streets in SG2, SG3, SG12, SG14, AL6 and AL7 without water, or with lower pressure than normal.

The burst was isolated and a large section of the eight-inch pipe that was damaged was replaced.

However, there has since been another burst on a section of the pipe, affecting water supply in Aston Lane, Astonbury Manor, Stringers Lane and Bragbury End.

A spokesperson for Affinity Water said: "We’re really sorry for the problems with your water today.

"Most customers will have their water flowing back to normal. However, there are a small amount of customers who will still be without water.

"This is due to another burst on a section of the pipe, which we're working to repair and flush to stop any discolouration or cloudiness when supply is restored to these properties.

"If your water is discoloured or cloudy, don’t worry, this is normal. We know it doesn’t look nice, but it’s not harmful and you can help by running your cold tap until it’s clear."

The water company says it has delivered bottled water to its most vulnerable customers who are on the Priority Services Register.

A bottled water collection point has also been set up at The Lordship Arms in Benington. Each household can collect up to six bottles of water (12 litres) from the car park.
