A group of trees in a Stevenage street will be felled because they are causing damage to property.

Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed it will fell 16 stems of ash and field maple trees to the rear of a house in Kimbolton Crescent.

A council spokesperson explained: "While we strive to only remove trees where they pose an imminent danger to people and property, we occasionally need to proactively manage our tree stock to prevent future issues arising.

"Suitable engineering alternatives, including root barriers, were explored. However, given the extent of damage and how close the trees are to private property, their removal is the only feasible option.

"Given the accessibility of the location, these trees will be allowed to regenerate and be kept on a regular schedule of coppicing, whereby they are reduced to ground level every five to seven years.

"Replacement planting will also be carried out in a nearby location that is more appropriate."
