Secret talks about the sale of land at King George V Playing Fields in Stevenage have been held by the council, the Comet can reveal.

At a meeting of Stevenage Borough Council's Cabinet last week, a discussion was held in private about the "leasehold property disposal of land at King George V Playing Field".

The council said the talks were held in private because it was "information relating to the financial or business affairs of a particular person (including the authority holding that information)".

It has now confirmed to the Comet that the land for sale "relates to an area of car park next to Aldi’s store car park".

Planning permission to extend the Aldi supermarket on Fairlands Way was granted by the council in January.

The extension will form a L-shaped wraparound, covering all of the western side of the store and half the northern side - away from Fairlands Way and towards Pets at Home.
