Martins Wood Primary School have issued an update after a carbon monoxide leak left a member of staff and two children in hospital.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the school in Mildmay Road just after 1pm yesterday (June 12), following reports of a number of children and adults becoming unwell.

One adult and two children have been taken to Lister Hospital by ambulance with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, while a further six adults and nine children were assessed at the scene.

Martins Wood remains closed today, and have issued an update to parents.

"We wanted to update you on the situation at Martins Wood," the statement reads.

"We understand that you are keen to collect your children’s belongings which were left at school yesterday. However, at the moment no one is permitted to enter the building, including staff, until final safety checks are completed.

"We hope to reopen tomorrow, but we will keep you informed throughout the day.

"We have become aware of specific individuals in our school community being named on social media.

"While we understand your anxiety over what happened yesterday, naming individuals is not acceptable and these comments have been removed.

"We welcome conversation – positive or negative – but we will not tolerate rude or unfair comments about anyone in our community and we ask that you please respect this."
