Planning permission has been granted for six new homes to be built in a North Hertfordshire village.

Under the plans, four four-bedroom houses and two three-bedroom houses will be built on land on the north side of Pirton Road in Holwell.

Holwell Parish Council objected to the proposed developed, with concerns including parking, the impact on wildlife, and that Holwell's sewage system "is at capacity".

North Herts Council's planning officer found that the development does not meet the threshold for affordable housing.

However, he said: "The site is part of an undeveloped open gap, and with the retention of front boundary vegetation it would make a positive contribution to this part of Holwell and the locality.

"The proposed density and number of dwellings proposed are not considered detrimental to the character and appearance of this part of Holwell, also taking into account the distance of the dwellings from the road to the south and intervening vegetation."

He added that "the proposed development is not considered harmful to the setting and significance of the three nearby listed buildings".

Planning permission for the development was granted by North Herts Council's Planning Control Committee at a meeting last week.
