Tributes have been paid at the scene of a suspected murder in Ickleford that saw a man die on Sunday (June 16).

Flowers have been laid at Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club in Chambers Lane to remember the man, aged in his 40s, who died from his injuries in hospital.

Candles have been placed in front of the floral display, while cards and cans of beer have also been laid to pay tribute to the victim.

A large South African flag has been tied to the tree where the tributes lay, while a flag for the nation's rugby team, attached to a post between two trees, gently flutters in the June breeze.

The usually bustling sports site was eerily quiet on Thursday afternoon, with the village seemingly left shocked by Sunday's incident. 

Oscar Jackson, 21, of Wilshere Crescent in Hitchin, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody.

Police were called to the car park of Ickleford Sports and Recreation Club in Chambers Lane in at around 10.30pm on Sunday, June 16, following reports of an assault.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
