An "astonishing" level of public support has saved this year's North Herts Pride market, after fears that it would have to be cancelled.

Organisers posted on social media earlier this week, saying that they were "struggling" to fund the market "due to unexpected external issues".

But after a flurry of support from local residents and businesses, the event will be able to go ahead as planned tomorrow (Saturday, July 20).

The organisers were able to raise their goal of £1,700 within two days, with sponsors such as Flame and Dame and Square One Gym getting on board to sponsor the event too.

After the event was rescued, organisers said: "It's even more astonishing that we are living in a time when everyone is really feeling the pinch financially.

"The fact is that North Herts Pride market will now go ahead, is a testament to the love that there still is in the world.

"By holding events like this, we can reach out to those who need help and show them that they aren't alone, and that there is a place for them, as well as educating and changing attitudes.

"A huge 'thank you', must go out to everyone who donated or supported our event. If you would like to help us to keep holding events and being a lifeline you can find North Herts Pride on JustGiving.

"Once again, thank you so much."
