The county is set for highs of 29° this afternoon, but it will get even hotter on Tuesday, with the mercury hitting 30°.

The UK Health Security Agency issuing a yellow heat health alert from today until 11pm on Wednesday, noting that there is "potential for significant impacts to be observed across the health and social care sector due to the high temperatures".

The warning includes a likely "increase in mortality across the population", particularly in those aged 65-plus or with health conditions, which could lead to an "increased demand for remote healthcare".

"Internal temperatures in care settings may exceed recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment," the warning continues.

"The impact on the ability of services to be delivered due to heat effects on workforce is possible, and many indoor environments likely to be overheating, leading to increased risk to vulnerable people living independently in the community as well as in care settings."
