A great week for Baldock Town Bowls Club saw them lift some silverware.

They claimed a 99-55 win over St Ippolyts to win the Stevenage Mixed League Knockout Cup.

Not content with that, they were also the victors in the final of the Cairns Cup, beating Royston 77-53.

They also retained top spot in the SML itself, taking five of the six points available with a 53-50 win over Three Horseshoes.

There were two friendly wins as well, beating Luton West End 80-54 and Letchworth Conservative Club 67-29.

Despite winning on two of the three rinks, Howard Garden were beaten 58-48 in a SML match away to Three Horseshoes.

A friendly triples game also proved disappointing as they lost 48-39 at Hitchin.

Dave Mann, Jeff Brothers and Sandra Jordan were the only winning rink.

Datchworth had two SML games this week and two County League matches.

The ladies' team of Nicki Berry, Jan Smith, Rachel Jones and Jenny Holzbauer lost 22-10 away to Northaw & Cuffley, despite holding a 9-6 advantage at one stage.

Nine shots lost in the final two ends exaggerated the final score.

The men fared much better though as a 31-26 success at a rainy Ware puts them in pole position to claim a spot in the East Area final.

Both rinks had close finishes.

Dickie Jackson, Steve Arnold, Jim Smith and Les Parsley were 15-9 ahead with three ends to play but lost three shots on the first of them and were down by another three on the penultimate end.

Parsley managed to turn it around and they hung on for a 16-13 success.

Rob Hazeu, Graham Akers, Derek Henley and Peter Hills claimed a 15-13 win but needed the skip to overturn a potential five-shot loss on the final end to do so.

Both matches in the SML ended in narrow defeats.

It began with a 48-45 loss at home to St Ippolyts, despite two of the three rinks winning, both by two shots each.

A trip to Holwell ended in a 47-43 loss.

This time just one of the Datchworth rinks won, that of Linda Tyler, Ian Tyler, George

Campbell and Derek Henley who triumphed 21-10.

North Herts Bowls Club had two matches, collecting an excellent win on the first of them away to Buntingford

The 80-64 victory saw three rink wins, the best of them from Simon Tory, Mike Jeffreys and skip Pete Moss.

The second game though ended in an 85-36 loss at Sandy.

Whitethorn held a midweek friendly against Shephalbury and won two and drew one of the four rinks for a 67-56 success.
