Steve Evans has confirmed that Stevenage are not letting anyone leave on transfer deadline day despite an approach from a Championship club for Nathan Thompson.

The boss revealed that someone had enquired about the defender, who has only just joined Boro himself, but were given a flat no.

"There is certainly none going out," he said.

"Players like Nathan Thompson will always command interest and it will be no surprise that a solid Championship club have come in and asked what it would take. 

"The chairman took the call and told me to manage it how I wanted. 

"My answer was nothing happens. 

"We are in good shape and nobody is going out."

That is for today though, in the next few weeks though the manager does expect some of his younger players to head out as part of their development.

Evans said: "The loan window only shuts for non-league clubs for a week.

"In a week’s time that opens back up and so when we get into mid-September, the youngsters we have who we think are ready, like Theo Alexandrou, they need to go and play men’s football if they are not going to be involved in the first-team group. 

"There is nothing better than playing in men’s football where the game rests on the result.

"It is not like a youth game.

"There are different aspects of football [that they need to learn] so there will be some of them who will leave."
