Steve Evans went one step further than his usual post-victory celebration against Cambridge United - performing a little jig as Stevenage moved back into a play-off place.

Usually egged on by the fans, the Boro boss is often seen punching the air in front of the East Terrace after three points at home.

But the dance following the 1-0 success over Cambridge was more to do with the back-to-back victories that have brought them out of a very tough February sixth in League One.

Evans said: "There’s been some strange results tonight but as I said to the players, when you’re in a promotional season, there are loads of storms that will come.

"Storms can be oppositions, storms can be officials or players getting injured or bad misses and storms can be bad mistakes at the back.

"But you learn to dance in the rain, that's what you do and that means you learn to work hard and you learn to be disciplined.

"I thought the players danced in the rain tonight.

"The performance was outstanding for long periods in the game against a team of players I've got a lot of respect for.

"Under Neil Harris they became a team and we watched the re-run of their game against Peterborough and that could have gone either way.

"This was more one-sided than that and the only downside is we don't get the second goal and kill the game.

"If we get that, we get that few more.

"But it was back to back wins and we've spoken about the importance of the two wins and the boys have delivered that."

Jordan Roberts got the only goal of the game 10 minutes before the interval and they created plenty of other chances in a match where the performance was mostly commanding, even if the result wasn't.

Evans knows they could do better with chances but he will take one if it brings the three points

He said: "We had a couple of one-on-ones and you have to take them.

"We'd expect Jamie Reid to do better but the kid's been on his on the treatment table for well over a week.

"And we'd expect Forster Caskey to put the header into the net.

"It’s a brilliant run from Jake and I thought his runs all night into the box were excellent.

"There's no reason why we don't [go on and score three or four tonight] but the contribution we got from the strikers was good.

"We've been operating without Jamie Reid for nine to 10 days so we brought Kane Hemmings back in.

"And then even when the boys run out of legs, we threw Jordan Roberts up. He was outstanding.

"And then people don't see this, but we see it as a management team, we threw big Vadaine on and that's the most impact he's had in the game since the first half at Wigan.

"He's suddenly come on in but in fairness to Alex Revell, he's done a lot of fitness work, a lot of finishing work and a lot of work on timing of headers.

"That will be really crucial to us in the next 12 games."
