Stevenage have filled the hole left by the departure of Terence Vancooten with another rather imposing figure.
Charlie Goode, a six foot five inch centre-half, on a one-year deal with an option for a further year.
The 28-year-old has spent the last four years with Brentford but was released in the summer after making just 20 appearances.
He had loan spells away from west London, heading to Sheffield United, Blackpool and Wign Athletic.
He had joined the Bees for a reported fee of around one-million pounds from Northampton Town.
He had moved into the pro ranks at Scunthorpe United after spells with Hadley, AFC Hayes and Hendon in non-league.
Boro manager Alex Revell said: "Charlie has missed a lot of football over the last four years, but he’s passed every medical and physical test we’ve put in front of him.
"He’s a big character, a commanding presence in both boxes and he can play.
"Those are qualities we value and he’s keen to get back playing regular football again."
