A five-year-old from Stevenage became a "pilot for a day", a dream came true, thanks to London Luton Airport.
William Evan-Hart visits the airport every week with his father Brad.
Together, they watch their favourite aircraft take off and land at the location.
For William's birthday, Brad messaged the airport on Instagram to ask whether they would surprise him.
Secretly, a behind-the-scenes visit was arranged, in which the young boy was driven along the runway, given a tour of the terminal and trained on how to marshal an aircraft.
A bespoke pilot's uniform was also presented to William as a birthday gift.
With William's favourite aircraft being a 787 Dreamliner, the airport liaised with the TUI airline and a private tour of the plane's hangar and flight deck was organised.
William was able to "fly" the Dreamliner from its flight deck, and even make passenger announcements.
On the surprise visit, William said: "It was the best day of my life.
"I got to learn how to signal in a plane and go on a Dreamliner.
"I can’t wait to grow up and work at London Luton Airport, but it's going to be hard to choose what job I want to do after my trip.”
Dad Brad added: "William has always loved looking up to the skies and seeing planes.
"We love spending time together at the airport, so to get this opportunity to see all the hard work that goes on behind-the-scenes was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"William often talks about wanting to work at the airport when he is older, so I hope that his birthday surprise shows him that the sky’s the limit.
"I can’t thank London Luton Airport and Tui enough for taking the time to make a local boy’s dream come true and hopefully encouraging a next generation pilot.”
The airports director of HR, Nik Jones, left the door open to William's possible return to the airport as an employee in the future.
He commented: "Attracting the next generation of talent is a key priority for LLA (London Luton Airport), so it’s always a pleasure to discover that we have a budding aviation professional like William on our doorstep."
