Children from a nursery in Hitchin were recently treated to a special trip for afternoon tea.

Staff at Highbury Lodge Day Nursery decided to make the trip following an interest in roleplay activities and imaginative play at the 'home corner' area of their nursery on Highbury Road.

The children visited Molly's Tea Room, where they enjoyed a selection of homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes, as well as their very own cups of tea, served using real china crockery.

During the experience, the children practised their table etiquette and discussed good manners, before using their language and communication skills to talk about the food they were eating and the scenery around them on the walk back to the nursery.

Emma-Louise Needham, deputy manager of the nursery, said: “The visit to Molly’s Tea Room was a fantastic experience for the children and they couldn’t wait to tell their families about their exciting day out.

"Developing an understanding of the world depends on children being able to find things out for themselves, and this real life activity was a brilliant way of aiding emotional, social and cognitive development.”
