A van driver in Stevenage suffered "life-threatening" injuries during a road traffic collision on Monkswood Way earlier today (Thursday, June 22).
Herts police were called at around 6.05am to reports that a white Ford Transit van had struck a barrier near the junction with Broadhall Way before overturning onto its side, leaving the driver trapped.
Police officers attended the scene alongside two fire engines from Stevenage station, four ambulances from the East of England Ambulance Service, and an ambulance officer vehicle.
Firefighters worked with the ambulance service to free the driver from his vehicle. He was taken to Lister Hospital with injuries that a police spokesperson earlier described as "serious" but are now described as "life-threatening".
Road closures remained in place while the vehicle was recovered and investigations were carried out. At around 2pm, Herts Highways tweeted that the A602 had reopened.
Police are now asking for any witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Rebecca Cornell, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries are continuing at this time to establish the circumstances around the collision.
