Flights to and from Luton Airport have been temporarily cancelled after a "significant fire" ripped through Terminal Car Park 2 leading to "partial structural collapse".

The update was made by the airport on Wednesday (October 11) morning with the site telling travellers: "Emergency services continue to respond to a significant fire in Terminal Car Park 2, which has resulted in partial structural collapse.

"All flights are suspended until 12pm on Wednesday 11th October, please contact your airline for the latest flight information.

"Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport at this time, as access remains severely restricted."

Those travelling from Luton Airport who have questions regarding a parked vehicle have been advised to contact luton.customerservices@apcoa.com.

Over 100 firefighters battle blaze at Luton Airport as flights grounded

Local fire and rescue services declared a major incident at around 10pm last night with 15 fire engines, three specialist aerial appliances and over 100 firefighters at the scene.

It is believed that some 1200 vehicles may have been parked in the facility at the time of the airport fire.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue shared footage of the blaze on social media platform X (formally known as Twitter) in a post captioned: "Efforts are still ongoing to extinguish a serious fire at Luton Airport.

"We are continuing to protect surrounding airport infrastructure, vehicles and the Luton DART."

Four firefighters and a member of airport staff were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
