Stevenage scouts shoot to success in national competition

Competing against more than 600 scouts from across the country, the team had their most successful year to date.

Harry Spencer won individual gold in the smallbore rifle event, while Thomas Layton fought through a sudden-death shoot-off to claim bronze in the field target event.

Harry Archer took a silver medal in target sprint - an event that combines shooting and running.

The team of Carys Richards, Imogen Wells and Ryan Pedder from Stevenage Explorer Scouts won the silver medal in the three position rifle event, which required them to shoot standing up, kneeling and lying down.

Scout leader and club veteran David Cannon led a team from Chells Scouts to the third place trophy in the standing rifle team event.

The Chells Scouts team of Noah Whitehouse, Harry Spencer and Lucas Speller then went on to achieve team silver in the overall championship, where the scores from all disciplines for each shooter are cumulated.

Meanwhile, Harry Charters achieved fourth in the smallbore rifle event, despite never having fired one before! 

Chells Scouts leader and club founder Kevin Yates said: "We are delighted at how well everyone in our team has done.

"Our scouts and explorers have been training hard for several months and their hard work has led to the most success our club has ever had. They should all feel very proud of their achievements."
