A clinical educator who works at Lister Hospital in Stevenage has won a national award.
Akeem Fernandez brought home the Preceptor of the Year award from the recent Nursing Times Workforce Awards 2023.
He first joined the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust in 2017, and began his current role in 2022.
Akeem teaches essential clinical skills such as cannulation, venepuncture and intravenous drug administration to newly-qualified nurses.
He also delivers training sessions to nurses and midwives, and supervises student nurses during their placements on the wards.

In a statement on social media, Akeem thanked those who had nominated him for "this amazing recognition".
He told the Comet: “Although I knew that my team had nominated me for Preceptor of the Year at the Nursing Times Workforce Awards, I was completely taken aback when my name was announced.
“I am very proud to represent my Trust and am grateful for all the support they have given me since I started working as a nurse in the UK six years ago.”
