Road closures are among the key public notices in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire that are set to affect residents.

Here are a few notices which could impact residents in Stevenage, Hitchin, and the surrounding villages in the coming months.

1. Roads near to Canterbury Way and Vardon Road in Stevenage

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from two roads in Stevenage. Waiting on both sides of the roads would also be banned.

The roads affected will be:

  • The entire length of the road to the rear of 365-369 Canterbury Way, from its junction with Canterbury Way
  • The entire length of the road to the rear of 91-107 Vardon Road, from its junction with Vardon Road.

The closures are to enable works to be carried out, and there will be no alternative routes.

However, the notice states that vehicle access to properties in the road will be "maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works".

The order would come into force on March 11 for a period of up to 18 months, though the roads will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly. Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the roads.

2. Road near Wymondley Road in Hitchin

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from a service road in front of 117-143 Wymondley Road in Hitchin. Waiting on both sides of the road would also be banned.

The closure is to enable works to be carried out, and an alternative route will be available via Halsey Drive and Wymondley Road.

3. Bawdsey Close in Stevenage

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from Bawdsey Close in Stevenage, for its entire length from the junction with Sheringham Avenue. Waiting on both sides of the road would also be banned.

The closure is to enable works to be carried out, and there will be no alternative route. However, the notice states that vehicle access to properties in the road will be "maintained whenever possible throughout the duration of the works".

4. Codicote Road, Whitwell

The closure is to enable electrical service works to be carried out, and an alternative route will be available via B651 Hitchin Road/Whitwell Road, B656 London Road/Hitchin Road, Whitwell Road and Codicote Road.

The order would come into force on February 26 for a period of up to six months, though the road will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly.

Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the road.

5. Damask Green Road, Weston

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from Damask Green Road in Weston. Traffic would be banned for a 1.7km section of the road, from the junction with Warrens Green Lane to the junction with Rowan Close.

The closure is to enable utility service works to be carried out, and an alternative route will be available via Weston Road, Calder Way, Orwell Avenue, Great Ashby Way, Canterbury Way, Martins Way, Verity Way, the B1037, the C14, Halls Green, Maiden Street and Damask Green Road.

The order would come into force on February 28 for a period of up to 18 months, though the road will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly.
