The legendary steam locomotive Sir Nigel Gresley is set to pass through a number of Hertfordshire stations on Saturday.

There will be plenty of excitement among train spotters, with the iconic train set to steam through the county on March 2.

The locomotive will start its journey at London Kings Cross at 7.57am and arrive in York just after 1pm, with a stop at Welwyn Garden City along the way.

You will be able to see Sir Nigel Gresley at the following Hertfordshire stations:

Morning:

  • Potters Bar - 8.18am
  • Welwyn Garden City - 8.28am to 8.35am
  • Stevenage - 8.49am
  • Hitchin - 8.54am

Evening:

  • Potters Bar - 9.21pm
  • Welwyn Garden City - 9.06pm to 9.13pm
  • Stevenage - 8.59pm
  • Hitchin - 8.55pm

Sir Nigel Gresley is an LNER Class A4 4-6-2 ("Pacific") steam locomotive built to a design of Sir Nigel Gresley in 1937 at Doncaster Works.

The locomotive holds the post-war speed record for steam locomotives on British Railways, and was withdrawn from service in 1966.

Clad in its stunning blue livery, it is among the world's most iconic and instantly recognisable trains alongside The Flying Scotsman and the Mallard.
