Hertfordshire could see thunderstorms today as a yellow weather warning has been issued.
Starting from 12pm, the county falls within a Met Office thunderstorm warning with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to lead to “some disruption”.
The alert, which lasts until midnight tonight, spreads across most of southern and eastern England.
"Whilst some places may remain mostly dry, areas of heavy rain and some thunderstorms are expected to develop from around mid-morning," the Met Office warning reads.
"In the south of this warning area, the focus is likely to be slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms, perhaps with hail and lightning, which should gradually ease away later on Tuesday evening.
"Across the warning area, 20 to 30mm of rain in one hour or less is possible - but perhaps most likely to the south of London - with a few places perhaps receiving 40 to 50mm in two to three hours."
The Met Office also says people should expect spray and sudden flooding to lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, potential delays to public transport due to lightning, a “slight chance” of power cuts, and potential flooding or damage to buildings.
