Labour has announced their candidate for the North East Herts Constituency at this years General Election.
Current North East Herts councillor Chris Hinchliff will stand for the party, as North Herts voters select a new Member of Parliament to replace the retiring Sir Oliver Heald, who has held the seat since its creation in 1997.
Cllr Hinchliff will be seeking to overturn a Conservative majority of over 18,000.
The seat, typically a 'safe' Conservative hold, is believed to be around 200th (out of 650) on Labour's target list.
Polling aggregator Britain Elects estimate that Labour is currently on course to win the seat, polling three per cent ahead of the Conservatives.
Cllr Hinchliff said: “I’m thrilled to be chosen to stand for Labour in North East Hertfordshire and I live in Royston.
"I will be spending every campaigning minute putting forward how a Labour Government will change people’s lives for the better.
"And if voters choose me to represent them, I promise to turn up, speak up and never give up on being the local voice for North East Hertfordshire in Parliament."
The other candidates in North East Herts are Steven Adelantado (Reform UK), Ruth Brown (Liberal Democrats) and Vicky Burt (Green Party).
The Conservative Party is yet to announce their candidate for the constituency.
