Hertfordshire Zoo in Broxbourne has an exciting new addition, after an adorable baby capybara was born earlier this month.
The pup was born in the early hours of June 2, and was up and exploring its habitat just 30 minutes later, under the watchful eye of parents Coroline and Mani.
"It's truly wonderful to have a Capybara pup at our zoo. Coroline has proven to be an exceptional mother," said head keeper at the former Paradise Wildlife Park, James Cork.
"The pup is quickly gaining confidence and has been spotted exploring its habitat under the watchful eyes of Coroline.
"We anticipate it will soon be zooming around its habitat and enjoying swims in the large pool."
Capybaras are the largest rodent on earth and live amongst the dense vegetation of South America.
The beloved species plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, and Hertfordshire Zoo hopes that by showcasing these animals, visitors will become better educated on the importance of preserving their natural habitats in the continent.
