A skip lorry hit a gantry on the A1(M), sending two skips hurtling into oncoming traffic.

Police were called at around 1.50pm on Thursday, August 1, after a skip lorry struck a gantry near junction 9 of the A1(M) northbound at Letchworth, causing two skips to crash onto the road.

Closures were put in place to allow the skips to be recovered, and the road was reopened by 3.10pm.

Nobody was hurt during the incident and no other vehicles were involved, Herts police have confirmed.

The incident was captured on dash cam by Nick Rance, who was driving a van at the time, and the video has so far had more than 78,000 views on TikTok.

He said: "The skip lorry hit the gantry. All I heard was a massive loud bang, and then I saw it and had to slam the brakes on safely, but was nearly squashed between the lorry and central reservation.

"Luckily, everyone managed to miss it all."
