A pedestrian who was involved in a collision with a car in Hitchin's Stevenage Road this morning is now in a stable condition.
Police were called at 7.14am today (August 8) to reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a white Volvo C30 and a pedestrian.
A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with what was believed to be life-threatening injuries, but a spokesperson for Herts police has said she is now in a "stable condition".
Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service, with road closures in place on Stevenage Road and at the turning for the A602 at the A1(M) Junction 8 roundabout.
Emergency services are currently at the scene.
One eyewitness described seeing a car with a cracked windscreen and crime scene investigators in Stevenage Road, close to the BP Garage.
