Labour MP for Hitchin, Alistair Strathern, visited animal charity Blue Cross in Kimpton Bottom this week – hailing their work as "fantastic".
Strathern met with staff at the organisation’s Hertfordshire shelter and rehoming centre, and was introduced to many of the dogs, cats and rabbits.
Blue Cross is a charity set up in 1897 to support abandoned, sick and injured pets. Every year they provide care for 40,000 pets, and they have been operating in Hertfordshire for over 70 years.
Their service includes rehoming, veterinary care, and education, advice and bereavement support for pet owners. In 2023, they rehomed 438 pets across Herts.
Strathern said: "It was great to visit Hertfordshire’s own Blue Cross centre and see first hand the fantastic work they do.
“They do an especially amazing job rehoming hundreds of once-vulnerable pets every year, providing a bundle of joy into so many homes."
The charity is funded possible by kind donations, volunteers and fosterers. The MP hopes that more people will get involved and support them.
He added: "Their work needs and deserves our support. They are a brilliant charity to donate to, and volunteer for.
"I am proud to support Labour’s vision to end animal cruelty and safeguard our pets."
