This Friday, September 27, is the official date for Macmillan Coffee Mornings.
However, people are encouraged to host events at their convenience, whether at work, in local cafés, community centres, or even virtually.
These gatherings raise funds that support cancer patients, proving that even a simple cup of coffee can make a big difference.
Macmillan Cancer Support, founded by Douglas Macmillan in 1911, is the UK's leading source of cancer support.
Today, more than three million people in the UK live with cancer, with a new diagnosis occurring every 90 seconds.
Facing cancer can be overwhelming, bringing feelings of shock, fear, and uncertainty. Macmillan provides emotional and practical guidance to help people cope with these challenges, offering advice on a whole range of issues including treatments, work issues, and financial concerns.
They also support families, providing resources to help them manage the emotional impact of a loved one's diagnosis.
Macmillan team members are available to listen, advise, and assist people in adapting to life with cancer.
For over 30 years in its present structure, Macmillan has been a vital lifeline for those affected by cancer, delivering essential services nationwide.
One of their most significant fundraising efforts is the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, which has become a cherished tradition across the UK, including locally.
In 2023, the Coffee Mornings raised £18 million, which helped fund nurses, health professionals, and support workers.
Every pound raised goes toward the physical, emotional, and financial support Macmillan provides to patients and their families.
Locally, Macmillan offers services from the Lister Hospital, where the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm at the Main Entrance.
Visitors can access free, high-quality information in a confidential and friendly environment, with trained volunteers and staff available to answer questions and provide support.
Additionally, Macmillan partners with Hertfordshire County Council to provide financial and benefits advice through a dedicated service on 01438 843456, available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Nationally, Macmillan's telephone and online support is accessible seven days a week from 8am to 8pm at 0808 239 6962.

Supporting Macmillan helps ensure that no one has to face cancer alone. Every contribution helps make this vision a reality.
