Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has issued an apology over its substandard hygiene at the Stevenage Poplars store - just days after admitting not meeting hygiene standards at its Corey's Mill store.
A worried customer had contacted the Comet to raise concerns of salmonella over dirty shelves holding raw chicken at the Stevenage Corey's Mill supermarket.
Sainsbury's said its stores have "strict hygiene rules" and apologised that "these usual high standards were not met in this instance".
Now, another customer has come forward to highlight the dirty state of the shelves holding raw chicken and milk at the Stevenage Poplars store.
Having taken some photos of the filthy shelves, he said: "These were taken as there was somebody standing by replenishing the shelves. They’ve looked like this for months."
Sainsbury's has apologised for not meeting its hygiene standards yet again.
A spokesperson said: "We maintain high levels of hygiene and cleanliness in our stores and we're sorry that these were not met on this occasion.
"Colleagues have taken action to return the shelves to their usual high standards."
