A community consultation event over plans for a new homeless hostel in Hitchin is being held today (September 30).
One YMCA recently decided to buy former retirement home Anderson House in Florence Street from housing association settle, to use as a hostel for homeless people in North Herts.
"The hostel will help those experiencing rough sleeping to transition smoothly to independent living," a spokesperson for North Herts Council explained.
Until 7pm tonight, at The Church of Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew in Hitchin's Nightingale Road, there will be Q&A sessions every half hour and a chance to share your views.
The council has previously said it recognises the growing demand for supported housing in the district, especially for single homeless people who require additional assistance.
Councillor Dave Winstanley, executive member for housing and environmental health, said: "This project is an important step forward in providing meaningful support for our most vulnerable residents.
"We’re proud to be working with partners who share our vision of providing a pathway to independent living for those who need it most."
